A Tribute to One of Science Greats It is with greatest sadness that Hai Kang Life Corporation Limited (Hai Kang Life) announces the loss of Professor Arthur Kornberg, one of the core Scientific Advisory Board members of Hai Kang Life since 2002. Prof. Kornberg passed away on Friday, October 26th 2007 at Stanford Hospital because of respiratory failure. He was 89.
A well-known inspirational scientist, Prof. Kornberg had pursued his career in medicine, research and professorship before returning to Stanford’s Biochemistry Department and remained chair of the department for 10 years. His passion and efforts spent on enzymology study is often related to as “love affair with enzymes” with a voluminous output of research spreading over five decades. He wrote several books, including Enzymatic Synthesis of DNA in 1961, DNA Synthesis in 1974, DNA Replication in 1980 and its second edition in 1992. He also composed a scientific memoir, For the Love of Enzymes: The Odyssey of a Biochemist, in 1989. The Golden Helix: Inside Biotech Ventures, published in 1995, provides his insider’s view of biotechnology. Germ Stories, Kornberg’s last book, is scheduled to be available in bookstores in November 15, 2007 and is written for children.
